Week 1 Under Wraps!

We just completed week 1 of summer school! I was so excited to get started with summer school at Hadfield. This is my first experience as an art teacher, but I am absolutely thrilled with how each session has gone! There are so many talented artists in each of these sessions, and I can't wait to see what else comes from this!

Monday
On Monday, we had an introduction day to go through expectations of the classroom, as well as having the students create a name tag - this allows for me to not only learn each artist's name, but see what their interests are and drawing style.

Tuesday
Tuesday was our self portrait day.The project was inspired by the cover art of R.J Palacio's book Wonder.

Wednesday
Students began working on a landscape artwork that combined watercolor paint with circle dots. Most of the students did choose to use these two mediums for their artwork, but they were able to venture outside of the expectations by using different mediums instead. The artwork for this will be posted in an upcoming blog that includes another landscape piece.

Thursday
Students created an art piece that focused on using cool and warm colors. They chose an object of focus - whether it be an animal, shape, their name, flower, etc. And chose to color that item with either cool or warm colors. After coloring the object, they used the opposite to do echo line art behind it.

Friday
Information will be posted in the next blog! I am so excited with this project, and can't wait to see what the students will create from this. Students will be creating an animal collage - this project will take us between 3-4 days, and is a collaborative art piece.
